1984 Nissan Maxima Won't Start - Ignition System
Question: I have replaced the ignition module, ignition coil, computer box and even cable from the ignition coil to the distributor. There is still no spark and the car still doesn't start. It turns over but won't start. I had the car towed to a mechanic. He said I need a new distributor and that will cost $242 rebuilt. He said the problem is that there is no pulse or power to the injectors. Does this sound accurate or is the problem something else?

Owner: My car is at a mechanic's shop now waiting for my authorization to put in a distributor.
There is no spark. They say it needs a new distributor. I do remember seeing a very small spring and a "b-b" pellet size chrome ball loose - laying at the bottom of the distributor when the first guy that looked at it pulled the distributor cap off.
Just wanted to get a second opinion before giving the okay. Technican: Here is your second opinion... In the center of the distibutor cap is a floating contact that is held in tension by the small spring. I would authorize the replacement of the Cap and Rotor and nothing else.. see what happens.. If nothing.. you can have your mechanic transfer these new parts to the new Distributor assembly. As far as no pulse indication to the injectors... that will probably be a problem in the ECU or ECM depending upon what your car has installed. Start with the cap and rotor.. and let me know..
